The jokaydia Community of Practice is based on the Islands of jokaydia in Second Life and is facilitated by jokay Wollongong aka Jo Kay.
The community includes educators from around the world who are interested in exploring the educational and artistic opportunities available in virtual worlds and the opportunities these spaces provide to build communities.

Title of presentation: Immersing in Virtual Worlds - jokaydia style!
Join us for some immersive activities on the Islands of jokaydia and discuss building communities of practice and learning opportunities in Virtual Worlds with members of the Islands of jokaydia Community of Practice.
This session will provide an overview of some of the strategies used to develop the jokaydia Community of Practice in Second Life, and the supporting resources we have created. It will also provide general info about some of the resources available on the Islands of jokaydia.
As part of this event, we will be moving around the Islands. Visit the jokaydia Landing Point (SLurl) to grab you copy of the Tour Pack which includes links and information about the spaces we will be visiting!

Tour Notes and SLurls
During the tour we will visit the following spaces:
- Community Entry Points: The Islands of jokaydia Landing Point (SLurl) - the entry point to our Islands, and provides a collection of tools and information for both residents and visitors to the Islands. Grab Landmarks to the various locations on the Island - including our community and events spaces and our residents plots. It also houses links to jokaydia's various web-based spaces which form an important part of our community's presence online.
- Resident's Locations: Kangan Batman TAFE's Job Seeking Skills Project (SLurl) - which provides resources and information for students on career pathways and job seeking skills, including the ability to roleplay job interviews in immersive environments.
- Demonstration Tools: Virtual Worlds Presentation Platform (SLurl) - an immersive space designed to provide an environment for a Second Life presentation. This space was originally used for a presentation by Sean FitzGerald in 2007, but has since been used countless times as a demonstration tool to provide educators with an insight into how they can use Second Life to provide dynamic and interesting mixed reality or inworld presentations.
- Community Resources: EduSquare (SLurl) - the Islands of jokaydia's educational resources and networking space is designed to provide a home for our educational community and projects. At Edusquare you can access landmarks to 30 top educational destinations inworld, check out some videos or meet with colleagues.
- Community Learning Spaces: jokaydia's SLoodle Hut (SLurl) a space for experimentation and learning for our community. The SLoodle Hut is a recent addition and seeks to provide a space for jokaydia residents to explore the use of SLoodle and Moodle in education. We have also provided a moodle space at http://jokaydia.com/moodle where residents can develop and pilot web-based resources to support their inworld projects.
- Social Spaces: jokaydia Beach (SLurl) - an informal space which can be used for parties, events or learning. Join us on the beach at jokaydia for a final chat and discussion.

Getting Started in Second Life
Please note, that this session will be held on the Islands of jokaydia in the virtual world of Second Life. You can visit us inworld here.
For participants who are new to Second Life, we have created a Getting Started in Second Life resource which will take you through the steps of creating your account and avatar and preparing for the session. Please ensure that you have gone through that process prior to the event!
